Lord Vishnu is one of the most important Hindu Gods to many devotees across the world. He is a part of the Trimurti of Hindu Gods along with Shiva and Brahma. While Brahma is known as the Creator and Shiva as the Destroyer; Vishnu is the Preserver of our Universe.

Rama Ekadashi is an important festival dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu. This festival is celebrated during the month of Kartik. It is celebrated during the 11th day of the Krishna phase of the Moon during Karthik Maas. This year, Karthik Maas Indira Ekadashi falls on the 9th of August. Let’s look at some facts about the true importance of Rama Ekadashi.

1. Once there was a great king named Muchkunda, who was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Muchkunda’s daughter was Chandrabhaga who was married to Shobhan.

2. Chandrabhaga requested her husband to observe a fast on the holy day of Ekadashi. Although Shobhan was unhealthy he agreed to observe the fast as he loved his wife dearly. However Shobhan’s weak body could not handle the fast and he died the next morning.

3. After Shobhan’s death, he went to a special place which was invisible to others. While he was there a Brahman who knew Chandrabhaga visited him. Shobhana then explained to him the importance of observing the special fast of Rama Ekadashi.

4. The Brahmin went back home and narrated the greatness of the vrat to Chandrabhaga. When she observed the vrat and offered dedicated worship to Lord Vishnu, her husband Sobhan’s life was returned.

5. Such is the greatness of the special fast of Rama Ekadashi, observing which can bring great fortune and prosperity to the lives of devotees.
