Putrada Ekadashi is an important festival dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu. This festival is celebrated during the months of Shravan and Pausha. It is celebrated during the 11th day of the Shukla phase of the Moon during Shravan Maas. This year, Shravan Putrada Ekadashi falls on the 26th of August. Significance Of Shravan Putrada Ekadashi

1. Also known as Pavitra Ekadashi, Putrada Ekadashi is an important fast for the devotees of Lord Vishnu all across the world.

2. The main purpose of the observance of Shravan Putrada Ekadashi is the birth of a son in one’s family. Lord Vishnu blesses devotees with a son if they offer dedicated worship to Lord Vishnu on this day.

3. Those couples who have been childless for a long time and are looking forward to the birth of a son or ‘putra’ can increase their chances surely by observing this occasion and praying with a pure heart.

4. Couples should also donate food, clothes and other simple items to Brahmins on this day as it brings great luck and prosperity to the family.

5. It is one of the 24 holy Ekadashis of the Hindu calendar year and is equally important too. Fasting on these occasions, including on Shravan Putrada Ekadashi is of prime importance to gain salvation of the soul.

Rituals Of Shravan Putrada Ekadashi

1. Taking holy baths in the morning to cleanse the body and soul

2. Observing fast throughout the day.

3. Offering flowers, incense, water, lamps and a hand fan.

4. Performing panchamrit worship of Lord Vishnu

5. Visiting nearby Vishnu temple and listening to bhajans and bhakti songs all night.

6. Chanting of Vishnu Sahasranama and other mantras of Lord Vishnu.
