Significance And Rituals Of Simha Sankranti 2017

1. Simha Sankranti is the day when the Sun enters the house of Simha rashi or Leo.

2. It falls during the Shravan Maas and the Dakshinayana phase (the southern journey of the Sun).

3. It is a day devoted to the Sun, Lord Vishnu and Vishnu avatar Narasimha.

4. Simha Sankranti marks the monsoon season; an important season in India due to agriculture and natural fertility.

5. It falls on 17th August 2017.

6. On this day devotees must fast and perform dedicated worship of Lord Vishnu and his avatars.

7. Taking a bath in the early morning and reciting Lord Vishnu’s mantras can bring prosperity to the lives of devotees.

8. One must however refrain from taking important decisions on this day as the Sun’s rays are considered inauspicious.

9. Those wanting to perform poojas like Pitru Dosh Nivaran are encouraged to do so on this day.

10. Donating food and other items to Brahmin priests is also encouraged on the day of Simha Sankranti.
